Lady's slippers are especially decorative in combination with foliage plants such as ferns and hostas. They all prefer half-shade. Cypripediums can also grow in the open shade on the north-facing side of a building. Please make sure that the garden orchids won't be overgrown by adjacent plants. Lady's slippers do not tolerate fast-growing neighbours and the competition of tree roots.
